They told the world a love story...
And the world bought it.

Hugh’s latest film made millions, caused countless swoons, and cemented his place as one of Hollywood’s hottest romantic leads – but he’s got a secret that could end his career. Flo wants to write steamy romance novels, but has no time between juggling three jobs. Living the dream. Then she meets Hugh, who makes her an offer that will upend both their lives; be his fake girlfriend to help hide that Hugh is really very gay.

In their follow-up to critically acclaimed, Offie finalist Villain, Interrupted, Dolls in Amber invite you to peek behind Hollywood’s velvet curtain… Modelled on beloved rom-coms, and tackling the homophobia still rampant in the supposedly progressive world of showbiz, Beard is a dramedy exploring love, fear, queerness and the distorting pressure of the public eye. After a rehearsed reading supported by the Kings Head Theatre Playmill Festival, the show underwent to 2 weeks of R&D supported by the Arcola Theatre and Redbridge Drama Centre. It was also selected for The Bush Open Submissions Scheme.

Beard is looking for its next home for a full length run. If interested please contact us for the production pack and film of the R&D showcase.

For the last six months Gina’s worked as a therapist in a prison for super-villains, determined to turn every last one into a hero. This audacious fusion of comic-book energy, theatre, and shadow puppets is her story.

Follow Gina as she plunges into the Powered Offenders Institute, and is forced to question everything she believes in. Her charges include King Cobra; a female drug-lord peddling hallucinogens, Lady Injustice; two college kids fused into one body, and Ink Lord; able to bring art to life, and angry enough to burn the world down.

From Daddy issues (that therapy staple) to toxic masculinity, queerness, classism, and mental health, Gina grapples with problems she’s ill-equipped to face. Will they see the error of their ways? Or is the error Gina’s in thinking they’re redeemable?

Join us for a comedy-drama exploring redemption, rehabilitation and the nature of evil (but funny)
